The exhibit of Native American religious items from Ecuador, Bolivia and Peru opened on September 14th and will continue until the museum closes for the winter break in December. Tom Block, from The Museum of New World Cutures gave a breif talk about the people and the areas where they lived. Many of these religious items indicate "magic" and range from pre-Columbian time periods to 2000.
The masks are highly unusual. Some are made of metal with huge horns. Others have faces on both sides. There are small soapstone carvings which promoted the growth of crops in the fields. One even depcits a divorce settlement!
We also want to thank Pat Datish for her short talk and ceremony. There is still time to see these wonderful and unusual items. Don't miss it!
